ABT Unveils Audi Ur-Quattro Reboot But All 30 Have Already Sold Out

\

Even given the countless

drool-worthy restomods
that are already on the market, it seems not a day goes without another classic getting a reboot. Now, don’t get us wrong— we’re all here for it. But let’s see someone make a restomod that’s actually accessible for a change. It only adds insult to injury when these recreations get made in such tantalizingly low quantities that they’re rarer than the real thing (if not also more expensive).

ABT Sportline is the latest culprit to bear this kind of forbidden fruit with its modern Ur-quattro release. Just three hours after the car’s announcement, all 30 examples were already spoken for. Thankfully, there are still other ways to scratch your

Sport Quattro
itch if you’re in the market for a classic Audi

experience.

ABT Is Building The Ur-quattro, But It’s Sold Out

As part of a surprise Steve Jobs-like unveil, ABT pulled the wraps off its Ur-quattro reissue at the « Friends of ABT » event held earlier this week. For CEO Hans-Jürgen Abt, the project had personal significance, as he modified an

original Quattro
when first taking up the reigns for the family business.

“When I took over the tuning department at ABT from my father at the end of the 1980s, the original quattro from the showroom was my dowry, so to speak. I widened the wings and modified it with parts from the Sportquattro, such as the front grille, lights and white magnesium rims – so it was a completely unique car. I drove the quattro myself for two or three years, and since then it has been part of our company’s exhibition.”

In collaboration with LCE Performance, ABT is working to build a neo-retro interpretation of the Audi legend. Though we don’t know the full details at this point, the preliminary specs do look promising. Along with a Kevlar carbon fiber body and a hidden roll cage, it’ll benefit from modernizations like anti-lock brakes, a 530-horsepower 2.5-liter engine, and a bespoke ABT Individual programme interior. We can only assume this means that it’ll feature the 3-cylinder from the

Audi RS3
, so those lucky few to have put their name down are in for a riot. Of course, it couldn’t have come cheap.

This render stays faithful to the Ur-Quattro while bringing fresh design language that shares elements with Audi’s e-tron GT.

Now, it’ll cost you. Even before you start looking at engines or selecting your transmission, LCE quotes a base price of €176,700 ($199,695). Once you start getting into interior choices, performance upgrades, and other options, it’s easy to add a few grand here or there. Nevertheless, with everything from short wheelbase models to S1 rally replicas to Pikes Peak racers available, it’s one of the best ways to get a
