Audi’s Most Popular SUV Just Got Even Better

\

Audi offers a diverse range of vehicles in the United States. The Q5 compact crossover is the most popular of them by a wide margin, comprising nearly one-third of the brand’s American sales in a given year. It’s been a while since Audi overhauled the Q5; the current-gen model debuted for the 2018 model year. But the Q5 is all-new for 2025. It runs on a new — but not entirely new — Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) platform. And it hits dealers in May with some significant changes.

The Lasting Appeal Of Audi’s Wagons And Why They’re Still Great

Station wagons aren’t the go-to here in the U.S.A. anymore, but there is still something endearing about Audi wagons, both newer and older models.

The 2025 Audi Q5 Is More Expensive

Audi bumped the price of the Audi Q5 considerably. The outgoing model started at $45,400. The incoming version starts at $52,200, representing a $6,800 price increase (about 15 percent). That places the Q5 slightly above rivals such as the BMW X3 and the Mercedes GLC. Audi did not increase that price due to tariffs. A primary reason for the increase is that Audi eliminated the base 40 TFSI engine, a 2.0-liter inline-four that produces 201 HP and 236 LB-FT of torque. However, it’s still a $3,400 increase for the now base 45 TFSI.
Audi is providing some extra oomph for the extra cash outlay. The Q5’s 2.0-liter inline-four now puts out 268 HP and 295 LB-FT of torque, an additional 7 HP and 22 LB-FT over the previous generation. The SQ5’s 3.0-liter V6 now pumps out 362 HP and 406 LB-FT of torque, an increase of 13 HP and 37 LB-FT. The new SQ5 also switches to a dual-clutch transmission. A new version of the Q5 PHEV model should arrive soon.
The 2025 Audi Q5 Also Gets Practical and Aesthetic Upgrades

Audi revamped the Q5 for 2025 with a more modern interior. Audi integrated the new 14.5-inch touchscreen into the dash to create a more premium and tech-forward « Digital Stage » setup. The interior also features more storage space, with larger in-cabin storage cubbies and a bump in total available cargo space to 56.9 cubic feet. Q5 owners can also now slide and tilt the second row as needed to increase the space.
Audi also updated the Q5 exterior. It has a new face with a prominent grille flanked by side air intakes. And as Audi promised with the new PPC platform, the Q5’s dual-exhaust and SQ5’s quad-exhaust tips are functional.
TopSpeed’s Take

Audi

The Q5 is a tremendously successful car. So, it’s not too surprising that Audi chose to refine the formula with the new model rather than redefine it. However, the price increase does affect one of the Q5’s main selling points: value. The question lingering over the Q5 is the Trump administration’s tariffs.
Audi builds the Q5 in Mexico. The brand has not stopped imports. And Audi has confirmed plans to keep the Q5 in the U.S. market. But the potential tariff hit could be devastating. If Audi does move some production to America, the Q5 could be a strong candidate to be assembled there.
