The 2025 Audi A5 Sportback Costs A Bit More Than The BMW 3 Series

The 2025 Audi A5 is almost here, and when it arrives, the five-door « sedan » that replaces both the previous-generation A4 and A5 Sportback will split the price difference between both. Confirmed today via the automaker’s website, the upcoming A5 will carry a starting price of $47,700 plus $1,295 destination and handling, which represents a hike of $3,600 compared to the A4 Premium and a cut of relative to the 2025 A5 Sportback Premium. And if you don’t love the A5 sedan’s design, act quick, because Audi will continue to market the new car alongside its forebears for the 2025 model year.

More Space And Power For The Stylish Sedan

While the previous-generation version of Audi’s corporate 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four made 261 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, the new A5 will put out a healthier 268 hp and 295 lb-ft. Mated to standard all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the A5 should be a spry performer despite its 3,900-pound estimated weight (up around 200 pounds compared to the A4). The newly standard mild-hybrid powertrain may be responsible for much of that mass, although the A5 sedan is also larger in every dimension.

Measuring 190.1 inches from bumper to bumper, the new A5 is 2.6 inches longer than the A4, as well as 1.6 inches taller and half an inch wider. The wheelbase grows similarly, which will provide ample space inside for passengers and cargo, with an impressive 22.6 cubic feet of cargo room compared to the A4’s paltry 12.0 cubes. in fact, Audi calls the new A5 a mid-size car despite competing in the same segment as the compact Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 3 Series. Indeed, the newest vehicle from Ingolstadt is a few ticks of the tape longer than its primary rivals.

Progress Through Technology

Audi’s old « Vorsprung durch Technik » slogan, which translates to « progress through technology, » is on full display with the 2025 A5 sedan. A new electronics system, dubbed E3 1.2, integrates the car’s multiple systems to make operation quicker and easier. The A5 also comes with a new driver interface called the Digital Stage. Standard on all models, the Digital Stage includes a Porsche-like freestanding instrument cluster measuring 11.9 inches and a 14.5-inch center touchscreen that handles most secondary controls. A 10.9-inch passenger touchscreen is optional, as is a dash-wide LED strip that flashes different colors to help alert the driver of changing road conditions or vehicle settings.

The car also boasts advanced technology of the analog kind. The revised, progressive-ratio steering rack is now bolted directly to the body structure and uses a stiffer torsion bar, which reduces elasticity and slop through the steering system to give it a more direct, enjoyable feel. New front wishbones and additional negative camber further improve the car’s responses, while the rear axle’s added anti-roll stiffness further neutralizes Audi’s reputation for understeer. Steel springs and fixed-rate dampers are standard on all A5 sedans.

Audi hasn’t released pricing for the entire A5/S5 lineup, so we’re not sure how much more expensive things will get once you start adding options. Those looking for more power will want to check out the S5, however, what with its standard turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that makes 362 hp and a staggering 406 lb-ft – 20 fewer ponies but 37 more torques than the BMW M340i. Regardless, the 2025 Audi A5 and S5 sedans will show up in dealers in the spring.
