Watch The Next Audi RS5 Sedan And Wagon Try To Be Sneaky

The CarBuzz spy photographers first captured Audi’s newest RS5 models late last year. Now we have video of both the upcoming RS5 Sedan and the Audi RS5 Avant wagon as they’re out having some fun in the snow.

In the videos, we get our first look at the new high-performance RS5 models – and yes, this will be the RS5 Avant, nee RS4 – on the road, showing what they look like dynamically, and adding some perspective to the photographs we’ve already brought you.
RS5’s Silence Is The Loudest Of All

The only thing disappointing about this video is that we can’t hear the sound of the RS5’s engine. The whistle of the wind is too great to overcome these exceptionally quiet performance cars. We’re not sure if Audi has added some extra-powerful mufflers to these prototypes or if the new RS5 is running in its plug-in hybrid mode. If it’s in PHEV mode, then the lack of pedestrian warning sounds is strange.

The name may change, but the idea of a fast wagon with a menacing footprint will live on.

We’re expecting the familiar 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 from the current RS5 under this car’s hood. That engine makes 444 horsepower and the total output will probably be higher this time around. Not just because of a new model, but because the Mercedes-AMG C63 makes 671 horses. Of course, Merc made the wrong choice to go with a four-cylinder (though that’s changing back to a V8 in the next C63).
Like the new C63, this RS5 will be a PHEV. The electric warning sticker on the front glass gives it away, even if we can’t spot the charge port door. We can’t really see the gas door either, but we know it’s there.
The New Audi Will Look Like An Audi

The design isn’t new at this point, but this is the summary: The car gets Audi’s new pointier nose, with the grille protruding from the natural front of the car. It’s Audi’s latest grille design, and it’s flanked by the brand’s current headlight shape and layout.
At the back, Audi’s cross-body LED light bar is present. A pair of massive exhaust tips poke out the back of both of these hot German rides. However, they won’t be quite as big in production as they look in the photos. The large cut-outs in the camouflage wrap exaggerate the size of the pipes.

There’s one other thing about this video that really caught our eyes. The amount of traffic.
It doesn’t really come across in still images, but this video shows how many vehicles can be up north testing at any given time. Enough that there are almost traffic jams of prototypes from different brands doing different validation drives in different directions. We’re sure the locals love being stuck behind a convoy of new models, though they probably enjoy the economic benefits of all of these drivers and engineers. Then again, we can’t imagine a place this cold is particularly densely populated anyway.
